Grupo Puntacana was set up 50 years ago with a vision of creating a tourism and lifestyle destination with the desire for sustainable tourism and social responsibility towards the surrounding local community as its core values. Much of this vision has been achieved; the company has won many prizes and awards for its pioneering environmental projects and principles. It has also invested in the community through infrastructural improvements and setting up health and educational facilities.

As part of this vision, it became obvious in the mid-1990s that there was a need for quality education in the area that would cater to both the local Dominican population and also the rapidly expanding national and foreign community working in the tourist industry and related businesses. Puntacana International School opened in 2000 with just several grades and has since expanded to what it is today.

We now have over 20 nationalities represented in our student body of over 650 students ranging from Toddler 1 up to 12th Grade level. Our teachers deliver a truly international experience for our students.

Puntacana International School is an educational institution recognized by the Dominican Ministry of Education (MINERD). The school follows the official programs of MINERD in the Spanish curriculum; and in English following the U.S. Common Core State Standards and the Next Generation Science Standards meeting the curricular levels for international schools. The school is accredited by the New England Association of Schools and Colleges (NEASC), which is a recognized institution known for its high standards of excellence in international education and accreditation.

This process involves self-reflection, peer review-work and best practices as integral components of its assessment process; it monitors follow-up endeavors that lead to continuous school/program improvement.

For the past ten years this process has provided us with the necessary tools to deliver a quality international educational service, where the emphasis is on continuous progress in student learning and also acts as a benchmark for future employers and university admissions as an indicator of educational quality.

The Puntacana International School is located in the Puntacana Village, part of the Puntacana Resort & Club, in Punta Cana, Dominican Republic.
